Shofu Dental: a clinician’s perspective on combining bioactive materials, instruments, and visual solutions

In modern dental practices, treatment success depends not only on the clinician’s skill but also on the quality of the materials and instruments used. A comprehensive approach to product selection can influence aesthetic results, adhesion effectiveness, manageability in clinical conditions, and operational economics. During the Greater New York Dental Meeting, one notable representative of the professional community, Dr. Howard Glazer, DDS, FAGD, shared his impressions of using a wide range of products from the Japanese company Shofu Dental, emphasizing their contribution to the clinician’s daily work.

Restorative materials: from flowable composites to advanced adhesives

Glazer noted that the company Shofu has long been known for high-quality flowable composites, and the new product Beautifil Flow Extreme represents an advanced formula with increased strength and improved performance properties compared to previous formulations.

He paid special attention to BeautiBond Xtreme — a new generation adhesive that contains a four-component mixture of monomers, which ensures reliable bonding to tooth tissues and compatibility with various types of restorative materials. Such a multi-component system contributes to improved adhesion to both enamel and dentin, expanding the clinical possibilities of restorative procedures.

Shofu products based on Giomer technology — the company’s proprietary filler capable of releasing and replenishing beneficial ions (including fluoride) — also deserve special mention, as such properties help reduce the risk of secondary caries and neutralize the acidic environment of the oral cavity.

Instruments and visual documentation: efficiency beyond the restorative area

In addition to restorative materials, Glazer pointed out the advantages of instruments and diagnostic tools. He emphasized the significance of the portable diode laser DentaLaze, which, in his opinion, should be in every dentist’s armamentarium: this laser is used daily in his practice for soft tissue procedures and provides convenience, patient comfort, and minimization of bleeding.

Documentation and visualization are also crucial elements of modern dentistry. Dr. Glazer noted that his team uses the compact EyeSpecial C-V camera from Shofu, designed with assistant operation in mind. This camera provides simple one-handed operation, automatic lighting, and reliable focusing, ensuring high-quality images for explaining clinical situations to patients and for records in the medical history.

Economic efficiency and practical accessibility

An important aspect emphasized by the clinician is the cost-quality ratio of Shofu products. He noted that many of the offered materials cost approximately 30% less than competitor analogs, while maintaining high performance characteristics and clinical efficacy. This makes them attractive for both private practices and multidisciplinary institutions, where the economic efficiency of material use directly impacts operational profitability.

Conclusion: comprehensive solutions for modern dental practice

Dr. Glazer’s remarks reflect the trend towards a more integrated approach in dentistry, where materials, technological instruments, and convenient documentation tools complement each other. Shofu products, in the opinion of a practicing physician, not only ensure high quality of restorations and soft tissue procedures but also contribute to increasing the efficiency of the office thanks to their accessibility, ergonomics, and clinical reliability.

Such a comprehensive view of materials and equipment aligns with the modern requirements of dental practice, where quality of care, transparency of communication with the patient, and economic sustainability are key success factors.
