Experience in digital dentistry

“I graduated from dental school in 2006 and have been actively involved in digital dentistry since 2009,” shares Dr. Gamal. “Today, I lead 3DVision, a company that provides advanced digital solutions for clinicians, including TriScan (centers for maxillofacial imaging) and 3DVision Education, a platform for hands-on training in digital dentistry. My clinical and academic work encompasses CBCT, 3D imaging, guided surgery, CAD/CAM, and smile design, in which exocad software plays a key role.”

Motivation and approach to work

“What inspires me most is helping dentists confidently transition to digital technologies. I am convinced that technology can humanize dentistry when used correctly — and that is exactly what I strive to convey through every case, lecture, and course.”

A turning point in his career came in 2015 at the International Dental Show in Germany, when Dr. Gamal was first introduced to exocad. He immediately recognized the software’s potential and began using it for digital wax-ups and protective splints.

“Exocad has become a central component of our clinical and laboratory workflows. We work daily with DentalCAD and exoplan, utilizing modules such as Smile Creator, Bite Splint, Virtual Articulator, Model Creator, and Implant Module. These tools enable the creation of highly accurate custom restorations and the planning of surgical interventions.”

“In Egypt and the Middle East, a significant gap in hands-on training for digital dentistry still exists. Many clinicians are eager to learn but lack a structured approach. That is why we created 3DVision Education, a platform for hands-on training in digital workflows—from scanning to CAD design and fabrication. Today, digital skills are not a luxury but a necessity, and education serves as the bridge between technology and improved patient care.”

Advice to his younger self at the start of his career

“Learn as much as you can — and keep learning. Be courageous, take calculated risks, and don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. At the same time, remain humble: values are more important than titles, and people’s lives and health matter more than material gain. Ultimately, it’s not about being the most successful but the most meaningful — and that is a lesson I carry with me every day.”
