Professor emeritus and head of the Department of Orthodontics (division of Oral Facial Development) at the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD). He is also an adjunct professor at the Purdue University School of Engineering (IUPUI–Indianapolis).

He began his academic career at the University of the Pacific (San Francisco) as Professor of Orthodontics, Director of the Graduate School of Orthodontics and Head of the Bone Research Laboratory. Dr. Roberts was Head of the Department of Orthodontics at IUSD from 1988 to 1997 and has been an Emeritus since 1997, continuing his active research and educational work .

Maintains a private practice with an emphasis on the use of implants and temporary skeletal supports (TSADs) in the treatment of complex cases with partial edentulism .

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists (ABO), a member of the Midwest Angle Society, a Fellow of the International College and the American College of Dentists .

– Recipient of the Albert H. Ketcham Memorial Award (the highest ABO award), recognized for significant contributions to orthodontics .

He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Orthodontic Research by AAO and was featured in interviews as an influential researcher .
