One of the most authoritative specialists in endodontics, whose work has set world standards for root canal treatment. After earning his DDS degree from Indiana University in 1965 and completing his postgraduate program in endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania in 1969, he built an outstanding academic and clinical career. At the University of the Pacific (Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry), Cohen chaired the Department of Endodontics and currently continues to work as an Associate Professor of Clinical Endodontics. His private practice at 450 Sutter Medical Center in San Francisco has specialized in endodontic treatment using modern technology since 1969.

Cohen also led a postgraduate program in endodontics at the Riyadh School of Dentistry in Saudi Arabia, which strengthened his international influence. He has advised the U.S. House Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Letterman Hospital, and has served as a forensic expert in cases involving standards of endodontic care.

His main contribution to the education of dentists is the cult textbook Pathways of the Pulp, all 10 editions of which he edited (since 2010 the book has been published as Cohen's Pathways of the Pulp). This work remains a key tool for endodontists around the world. Cohen is also co-editor of A Clinical Guide to Dental Traumatology (2006), a book on the treatment of dental trauma. Recent publications include the article "Early Detection and Management of Vertical Root Fractures" (Journal of Endodontics, 2021), as well as a series of papers on procedural complications in endodontics published in the Swiss Dental Journal (2005-2006). His publications have been cited more than 5000 times, confirming the significance of his research.

As a dental congress lecturer, Dr. Cohen conducts talks around the world, including Otexe.com events.
