A globally recognized expert in endodontics and restorative dentistry, whose career spans over four decades. A Wisconsin native, he received his DDS degree from Marquette University in 1970 and his certificate in endodontics from the University of Illinois in 1973. His academic career is associated with Texas A&M University (Baylor College of Dentistry), where he served as a professor and head of the Department of Endodontics, later becoming a professor emeritus. Gutmann is also an honorary professor at Wuhan University School of Dentistry in China and a distinguished adjunct professor at Savitha Dental College in India.

After 27 years of teaching, he established a private practice in Dallas, focusing on endodontic procedures, where he emphasized a commitment to clinical precision. As a dental congress speaker, Dr. Gutmann has delivered over 800 presentations in 52 countries.
