A small device with significant impact
In dental imaging, the quality of an X-ray depends not only on the sensor, film, or phosphor plate but also on how accurately they are positioned in the patient’s mouth. Even the most advanced systems can fail if the plate shifts, bends, or causes discomfort. The solution to this challenge is a new development by Air Techniques, Inc. — the VistaPosition PSP holder system, introduced at the Greater New York Dental Meeting 2024.
Designed for gentle retention
The system is specifically designed for phosphor plates (PSP) — flexible imaging mediums used as an alternative to traditional film and digital sensors. These plates are highly sensitive yet fragile: bending and mechanical pressure reduce their lifespan.
Phosphor plates (PSP) are a modern alternative to traditional X-ray film. Unlike rigid digital sensors, PSP plates are flexible and lightweight. When exposed to X-rays, they store a latent image, which is then scanned to produce a high-quality digital radiograph. The plates are sensitive and reusable but require careful handling: bends or damage can degrade image quality.
VistaPosition solves this problem with special stabilizing blocks that secure PSP plates firmly yet gently. Thanks to the ergonomic design, plates slide into the holder without bending or compression, enhancing their durability and ensuring consistent image quality.

Simplicity and versatility
The system stands out for its user-friendliness: color-coded parts simplify assembly, and high-quality surface finishing ensures comfortable handling and durability. Furthermore, VistaPosition is compatible with nearly all major PSP systems and intraoral X-ray units.
This means dental practices can implement the innovation into their workflow without additional costs or changes to existing equipment.
Why this is important
Such incremental improvements as the VistaPosition PSP holder system can significantly impact clinic operations. More precise plate stabilization reduces the need for retakes, extends equipment lifespan, and enhances patient comfort during the procedure.
Sometimes, it’s the simple tools, designed intelligently, that deliver the most noticeable results.
