PROF. SILVIO ABATI
• He completed his training in Oral Medicine and
Oral Pathology with periods of study and practice
in the United States, the United Kingdom and France.
• The fields of research, teaching and clinical activity
of Prof. S. Abati are in the prevention, diagnosis and
treatment of infectious, inflammatory, malignant diseases
of the oral mucosa, the tongue, the salivary glands, including
the symptoms and discomforts that they cause.
• He is part of the italian WHO Collaboration Centre for Oral
Epidemiology and Community Dentistry since more than 10 years.
• Silvio Abati is active fellow and already part of the Board
of the Italian Society of Oral Pathology and Medicine (SIPMO).
He is fellow of the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM)
and of the European Association for Oral Medicine (EAOM).
• Currently he is in charge of the Departmental Center of Oral
Medicine and Pathology of the Department of Dentistry
Dental Clinic-IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan.

Introduction: the role and importance of oral medicine and pathology in modern dentistry
• The listeners will learn about the principles of anatomy, histology
and oral physiology; pathophysiology of oral mucous membranes:
why and how basic lesions of oral tissues are formed.
WEBINAR 2
Recording
Principles of oral diagnosis
• The lecture will be about the oral biopsy: a tool for the diagnosis
and treatment of common mucosal conditions. The participants will
find out how it could be effectively provided; traumatica lesions and
benign tumour of the oral tissues, surgical therapy.

Science and clinics of the most frequent diseases
• The lecture will cover the information about the most frequent
diseases, such as virus and fungal diseases, aphthous stomatitis,
oral lichen planus, and other common conditions.
MODULE 2

Science and clinics of the most serious and severe diseases
• The webinar will provide the listeners with update on potentially
malignant oral conditions and oral cancer. Special considerations
will be reserved to the prevention and early diagnosis of potentially
malignant conditions and oral cancer, the prevention and treatment
of complications of anticancer therapies in cancer patients.

Oral manifestations of systemic diseases
• There will be spoken about such diseases as xerostomia, burning
mouth syndromes, bad breath, oral allergies, general diseases with
oral signs.

General diseases with oral signs
• The lecturer will speak about the critically ill patient: osteonecrosis
of the jaws, oral mucositis in cancer patients from chemo - and
radiotherapies.
