According to a survey by the ADA Health Policy Institute, which covered 552 physicians in private practice, <strong>more than two-fifths of American dentists already use artificial intelligence for at least one task<\/strong>, and every fourth is planning to implement this technology in the near future.<\/p>\n<h2>Where physicians accept AI, where they reject it<\/h2>\n<p>The greatest demand is demonstrated by <strong>administrative applications<\/strong>. More than a third of respondents intend to use AI for maintaining ambulatory records and documentation, roughly the same number \u2014 for processing insurance issues. <strong>AI for image analysis and diagnostics is already being used by slightly more than one in five physicians<\/strong>. The next most popular tasks are insurance verification and explaining clinical findings to patients.<\/p>\n<p>However, the boundary of professional control is clearly marked. <strong>Fewer than one in twenty physicians use AI for treatment recommendations, and more than four-fifths stated that they do not use and do not plan to use such an approach<\/strong>. The reasons for physicians&#8217; caution are known: fears of diagnostic errors, the risk of overtreatment, and the possibility of excessive dependence on automatic suggestions. These factors are consistent with the results of a 2025 study, in which both physicians and patients expressed support for AI in data collection and analysis, but insisted on maintaining the specialist&#8217;s responsibility for final diagnostic decisions.<\/p>\n<h2>A model of assistive, not leading role<\/h2>\n<p>The emerging approach is characterized by <strong>AI-assistive, not AI-driven dentistry<\/strong>. The technology reduces the volume of routine work and increases the operational efficiency of the practice, while clinical judgment remains the prerogative of the physician.
