Medit, a developer of digital solutions for dentistry, has presented a global launch of the Realtime Intelligence feature for intraoral scanners. The innovation addresses the main problem of digital workflows: the quality and completeness of scanned data often reveal issues only after the patient leaves the clinic.
In traditional digital workflows, scanning results depend on the operator’s experience. Insufficiently scanned areas or incorrect tooth preparation are detected only after the appointment, which entails repeat visits, laboratory rework, and inevitable treatment delays.
Realtime Intelligence is built into the Medit Link platform (a workflow management system for clinics and laboratories) and requires no additional equipment. The function operates in three verification stages: Scan Review identifies missed or overlapping scan areas; Preparation Review assesses undercuts (insufficient preparation depth), reduction depth (tooth abrasion), interproximal space, occlusal clearance, and clarity of preparation margins; Occlusion Review controls occlusal (bite) contacts, their distribution, and pattern.
Additionally, the system automatically captures high-resolution images of prepared teeth from five angles: occlusal, buccal, palatal, mesial, and distal sides.
Prior to official launch, Medit conducted trials in clinics worldwide. Dentists noted increased confidence in scan quality, early problem detection, and reduced rework and rescanning.
Currently, the system is certified for crowns and inlays; expansion of indications is planned in the near future. All solutions and recommendations offered by the algorithm are suggestive in nature — the final clinical decision remains with the dentist.
Realtime Intelligence is included at no additional cost in the Medit i900 scanner line (i900, i900 classic, i900 Mobility). Owners of Medit i700, i700 wireless, and i600 devices can purchase the feature under a single license for €2000, or take advantage of a free trial period until December 31, 2026. The Medit i500 scanner is not supported.
